The Field walk was fun!

We spent about an hour and a half exploring the farm. We discussed the importance of rotational grazing for carbon storage in the soil...the value of manure and the future of other crop production methods that are dependent on industrial fertilizer inputs...the striking biodiversity in our grasslands vs corn-wheat-soybean monocultures...the steps taken to limit soil erosion...the success of the electric fencing to exclude the cattle from the river and other riparian areas...

Barbara and Krista found over 28 species of plants in hay field, and as usual there were Bobolinks here there and everywhere.

The kids walked, ran and played with immense energy!

Sorry I missed the fun. I hope you do it again another time!
